Australia’s premium sustainable housing project, The Cape, in Cape Paterson, has opened its doors to its newest 8.2-star edition, Cutlers. This carbon neutral, energy and water efficient coastal home sits within the top 1% of sustainable homes in Australia. The home features state of the art energy efficient design, construction and fit out, which combines to keep the home beautifully comfortable in all weather conditions, while reducing annual energy costs to as low as $500 per annum, which is around 15% to 20% of the energy costs of a state average home. Named after one of our favourite local surf breaks, Cutlers was designed to fit into the ethos of “The Cape” sustainable housing development. This single story dwelling has many integrated sustainability features such as rammed earth block walls, polished concrete and external timber feature panelling, zero VOC paints and excellent insulation, double glazing, thermal mass and ventilation combining to achieve an 8.2-star energy rating. The landscape features locally indigenous plantings and raised planters for food production. Cutlers is fitted out with energy efficient appliances including Sanden heat pump for hot water and Daiken Ururu 7 star split system for heating and cooling, Beko electric oven and induction cooktop, and is designed to run without gas or fossil fuels. Water efficient appliances and 10,000 litre rainwater tanks plumbed into the house complement other energy, water and cost saving initiatives, including electric vehicle charge points and a rooftop solar array. The home sits in Periwinkle Place in Cape Paterson alongside another completed 8.2-star home and another 4 homes being built to similar standards, in Victoria’s most sustainable greenfield housing project. Cutlers is a short walk to parks, vies of the ocean and a large urban food garden for our residents, as well as local swimming and surf beaches. All homes at The Cape have high speed broadband with fibre optic cable to the home. The aim is to build out all 220 homes at The Cape to the same standards as Cutlers, providing residents with comfortable, high quality, light footprint living with low running costs. This wonderful new home represents a new and unique category of high comfort, low running cost, sustainable homes being offered into the Victorian housing market by The Cape. It sets the bar at the highest level for our residents to enjoy the benefits of a home that stays comfortable year round with wonderful passive solar design, and state of the art heating, cooling, cooking and hot water systems that use a fraction of the energy of traditional systems. The home is a testament to the great efforts of our builders at The Cape, and we look forward to more homes being completed over coming months. - Brendan Condon, The Cape Director STOP PRESS!
