Bass Coast is Booming – Check Out the New Investment and Infrastructure Happening Around The Cape28/5/2018 The Cape is Victoria’s most sustainable housing estate and is situated only 1.5 hours from the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It’s also only 10 minutes from larger regional towns of Inverloch and Wonthaggi where you’ll find a great selection of cafes, restaurants, schools, supermarkets, retail stores, sporting facilities and medical service providers. Everything is on your doorstep when you live at The Cape, not to mention pristine beaches. Over the course of 2017 and 2018 the Bass Coast area received funding to complete a number of notable projects to help shape a better Bass Coast. Recent funding announcements from Premier Daniel Andrews gave green lights to the rebuild and expansion of the Wonthaggi Hospital and Wonthaggi Secondary College, as well as the Cape Paterson Surf Lifesaving Club. Each of the upgrades, which are set to occur within the next 3 years, represent a great outcome for the community and a clear commitment to the area by state government. Wonthaggi Hospital will receive $115 million for the redevelopmentof its emergency department, construction of a new operating theatre, refurbishment of two existing theatres and upgrade of several current inpatient rooms to meet the demands of the growing local community. The upgrade will also reduce the need to transfer critical patients to other hospitals. Cape Paterson Surf Lifesaving Club also recently received $1 million of funding for the redevelopment of its clubhouse, in addition to the $2.3m which was previously committed to the project by the state government. The new clubhouse will include the construction of training rooms, a community hall, change rooms, and various other state-of-the-art facilities; all of which is set to be completed in early 2019. Wonthaggi Secondary College will also receive $25 million to build a new senior campus which will provide a quality education precinct in order to fulfil its function as a regional centre. With the funding officially announced, construction has already commenced on the new complex. The Cape residents will reap the rewards of numerous planned upgrades in the Bass Coast region over the coming years as the government takes steps to strengthen regional infrastructure and services to encourage decentralisation from the metropolitan areas. As you can imagine, Council maintenance and upgrade works on roads, drainage and buildings are continuously happening across the region, especially as Bass Coast is considered one of the fastest growing regional areas in Victoria! You can view what works are occurring on council assets here and VicRoads assets here. Wonthaggi and Inverloch provide all of the services and facilities that you could need whether you’re living or holidaying in the Bass Coast region. With four major supermarkets (plus organic stores), a wide range of retail outlets and countless cafes and restaurants, you’ll be well catered for.
