A few weeks ago, we promised you further info on our upcoming Sustainable House Day event, which is being held on Sunday 16th September between 10am and 4pm. Read on to find out everything you’ll need to know about our biggest event on the calendar. Organised each year by the ATA, Sustainable House Day provide an opportunity for tens of thousands of people to visit some of Australia’s leading green homes – ones that are not only environmentally friendly, but cheaper to run and more comfortable to live in. As Australia’s first net zero carbon estate, we’re lucky to have a large (and growing) number of architecturally designed, climate adapted sustainable homes in the estate – five of which will be open to the public. Sustainable House Day at The Cape will be jam packed with activities to suit the entire family with free electric bike test rides, free Tesla EV rides along the picturesque Bunurong Coastline, a Sustainability Marketplace, live music from local talents Humming Duo and Janie Gordon as well as free barista made coffee and refreshments. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy delicious wood fired pizzas, listen to a suite of talks from industry experts and tour one of Victoria’s most innovative community gardens. The talented builders and designers of the five sustainable homes open to the public on the day will also be available to chat. The Sociable Weaver, TS Constructions, Adapt Design Group and Beaumont Concepts will talk you through how to create a comfortable, sustainable and bill-busting home and Stage 2 of The Cape will be officially opened! We have a panel of fascinating guest speakers arranged for the day including energy rating guru Tim Adams from F2 Design who’ll speak about how Victoria’s first 10-star home (located at The Cape) achieved its rating. Also joining us on the day will be the inspiring Tammy Logan of Gippsland Unwrapped who will talk about her journey toward creating a zero waste, plastic free and no palm oil lifestyle. You’ll hear from a current resident about why she and her family have opted for a sea change to The Cape, as well as The Cape’s landscape architect, local sustainable residential builders and more. Within our Sustainability Marketplace you’ll find local businesses who are doing good things in different ways including, The Alternative Technology Association, Tread Lightly - a zero waste lifestyle product company, South Gippsland Beekeepers Organisation - a club for beginners to advanced beekeepers to join, Wheel Heat – e-bike sellers and experts, New Gen Solar – heat pump and solar experts, Gippsland Solar – solar and battery experts, The Sustainable Landscape Company – native and sustainable landscape experts and Finch & Wren, creators of sustainable body and health products. Head to www.sustainablehouseday.com to read all about the sustainable homes that The Cape will be opening this year, as well as the countless other homes involved in SHD from across the country.
