The Cape, just down the coast from Inverloch, will be launching two super sustainable homes that have eliminated their energy bills, as part of our passata making day this Sunday 11th March.
According to modelling by the Alternative Technology Association, these homes are expected to eliminate their energy bills altogether and generate annual cash rebates of between $90 and $400 per annum for residents, compared to the annual energy bills of $3000 per annum paid by the average Australian household.
Five of The Cape's sustainable properties will open their doors to the public between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 11th March, including The Core 9 home designed by Beaumont Concepts and built by TS Constructions, the 8.7 star Dune 1 home by Adapt Design GROUP, as well as Victoria's first 10 star home by The Sociable Weaver. All homes have eliminated annual energy running costs through clever passive solar design, state of the art energy efficient fit out and solar power, and celebrate modern sustainable living in comfort, great design and affordability.
The Core 9 home, designed by Beaumont Concepts and built by TS Constructions, will open it's doors for the first time to the general public, showcasing the latest in premium sustainable living. The home features an amazing 9.1 star energy rating, including recycled reverse brick veneer, burnished concrete flooring, excellent shading, double glazing and insulation, led lights, heat pump heating and cooling, water efficient plumbing, a 6kw solar PV system, 4.8kw battery storage, fibre optic NBN connection and electric vehicle charge points.
The home has many other innovative sustainable features too numerous to mention here, which create comfortable, low running cost, carbon neutral living, and places this super -efficient coastal home within the top 1% of sustainable homes in Australia.
Designed & Built By Adapt Design GROUP
Dune 1 was designed to fit the ethos of The Cape sustainable housing development. The team behind this home have created an extremely energy efficient dwelling whilst keeping construction costs low. Like CORE 9, Dune 1 showcases all the fundamentals of best practice energy efficient design and construction - including, good orientation, quality insulation, crossflow ventilation, double glazing, thermal mass and shading. This 8.7 star, single storey, three bedroom dwelling has many integrated sustainability features such as a 7.5kw solar photovaltic system, smart energy monitoring, a Sanden Eco Hot Water Heat Pump, Wels 4-star taps throughout and much more. The home is expected to not only zero it’s energy bills, but generate an annual rebate of several hundred dollars for surplus solar power sold to the grid.
The Cape Passata Day will be an opportunity to talk to the amazing builders behind some of the houses at The Cape, as well as participate in activities including a passata making workshop using some of the abundant tomatoes grown from the large community garden at The Cape. The festival will feature local music talent, and barista made coffee and refreshments.
